Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG that sneaks up on you. The opening hour feels like a standard fantasy setup — pick a hero, learn the combat, save a village — but by the time you're managing a four-person party with elemental synergies, it's clearly aiming higher than most mobile RPGs.
Combat is turn-based and leans on positioning. Where your characters stand on the grid affects which enemies they can reach and how much splash damage lands, so there's real thinking involved past the tutorial zones. Crafting is the other big draw: gather materials from dungeons, break down gear you don't need, and slowly build toward the weapon you actually want.
The story won't win awards, but the voice acting is solid and the pacing gives you room to breathe between big fights. We'd have liked a faster way to re-run old maps for materials, but otherwise this is an easy recommend for anyone who wants a proper RPG on their phone.
What we liked
- Grid-based combat that rewards planning
- Deep crafting and gear breakdown system
- Likeable party with decent voice work
